Crowns and Collars: a Pet Pageant to Benefit Miss Oregon and The DoveLewis Veterninary Emergency & Specialty Hospital

Introducing "Miss Oregon's Crowns and Collars": A Regal Paws Pageant to Benefit The DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital.

[Portland, Oregon] – Miss Oregon Scholarship Program (MOSP) is proud to announce the inaugural "Miss Oregon's Crowns and Collars," a Paws Pageant event aimed at celebrating our furry friends in regal style. This exciting event, in partnership with DoveLewis, will not only showcase the charm and elegance of pets but also raise vital funds for the DoveLewis Velvet Assistance Fund, a program that helps relieve the cost of emergency care for low-income families.

Event Details:

"Miss Oregon's Crowns and Collars" invites pet owners everywhere to join in this regal celebration by participating in various competition categories. From the People's Choice to the Royal Pet Regalia, there's a category for every pet to shine. The event will take place online throughout the month of May, allowing ample time for pet owners to nominate their beloved companions.

Competition Categories Include:

People's Choice: Every pet will automatically be entered to win the People's Choice category. People's Choice photos and voting will take place at www.missoregon.org. Voting ($1/vote) goes live in May. People’s Choice will be selected based on the highest number of public contest votes.

Twin it to Win it: Participants can share photos of themselves twinning with their pets or a side-by-side comparison to their pet's doppelgänger.

Seasonal Stars: Participants can select their favorite holiday (Halloween, National Donut Day, Christmas, Take Your Cat to Work Day, etc.) and showcase how their Seasonal Star celebrates.

Red Carpet: Participants can showcase their pets on the virtual runway with star quality.

Fitness / Activewear: This category is for athletic, outdoorsy, active pets, as well as the pool loungers and athleisure-lovers.

Rainbow Connection: A special category to memorialize pets who are no longer with us but forever in our hearts, having crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Participants may enter their photos in any or all of the other categories as well.

Proceeds for a Paws-itive Cause:

A significant portion of the proceeds from "Miss Oregon's Crowns and Collars" will benefit the DoveLewis Velvet Assistance Fund. This fund provides critical support for pets in need of emergency veterinary care, ensuring that every pet receives the care and compassion they deserve.

Quotes:

"We are thrilled to introduce 'Miss Oregon's Crowns and Collars,' a celebration of pets and their regal charm. This event not only brings joy to pet owners but also supports the vital work of the DoveLewis Velvet Assistance Fund," said Beth McShane, Executive Director of the Miss Oregon Scholarship Program.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Miss Oregon Scholarship Program,” said Lauren Cox, DoveLewis’ Development Director, “The funds raised at this event will significantly benefit low-income families, allowing them to focus on the health of their pets rather than worrying about the cost of an emergency vet visit."

Miss America’s Scholarship Foundation joins Go Red for Women to champion women’s health and well-being at every age

The American Heart Association’s signature women’s movement will serve as official health thought leader for Miss America while raising awareness of women’s No. 1 health threat

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) claims more lives than all forms of cancer, yet many women, particularly younger women, remain unaware.[1] Through its Go Red for Women® movement, the American Heart Association, which is devoted to a world of healthier lives for all, is being supported by Miss America’s Scholarship Foundation to empower the next generation of women to take charge of their health and make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of communities nationwide.

The new support of Go Red for Women by Miss America’s Scholarship Foundation will activate around three pillars: promoting awareness of CVD as the No. 1 killer of women; educating and empowering Miss America's participants at the local, state and national levels; and raising critical funds to support the Go Red for Women movement which champions equitable research and treatment for women.

Nearly 45% of women over age 20 are living with some form of CVD, and as women grow and change so does their risk for cardiovascular disease. Yet, younger generations of women, Gen Z and Millennials, are less likely to be aware of their greatest health threat, including knowing the warning signs of heart attack and stroke.[2] That’s why it’s important for all women to take charge of their heart health and encourage others to do the same.

“By aligning our shared goals to empower and invest in the lives of women, we can expand our reach to improve the health of our communities and inspire women to become the best versions of themselves,” said Robin Fleming,  Miss America's CEO.

Allison Burke, Miss Oregon 2023 at the Miss America’s Go Red Gala in Orlando Florida earlier this year.

Go Red for Women, established in 2004, works with organizations and individuals toward a shared vision of saving and improving women’s lives by advancing equitable research and care, advocating for inclusive health policies and raising awareness. Today, the Go Red for Women movement is here for women at every age, every stage, and every season of their lives as their trusted, relevant source for credible, equitable health solutions.

“In the 20 years Go Red for Women has worked to save and improve women’s lives, one thing we’ve learned is that women—particularly young women—need to know that heart disease doesn’t discriminate,” said Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association. “Anyone can be a lifesaver,” she continued. “You just need to know the signs and symptoms and have confidence to speak up. The life you save could be your own.”
